About Wild Breath

Every Man Attends Free
There is no fee to attend a Wild Breath retreat. Not a reduced fee, not a sliding scale — no cost at all. Food, group gear, permits, and shared logistics are covered before you ever arrive at the trailhead.
100% funded by generous donations
Wild Breath is a 501(c)(3) supported entirely by people who believe in this work. No man pays his way in, and no one is turned away.
We run on a pay-it-forward model. Men who have been out on the mountain fund the crew that comes next. If the weekend gave you something worth keeping, the way you say thanks is to make sure another man gets the same shot — give what you can, when you can, or nothing at all. Every gift is tax-deductible and goes straight back into putting men in the backcountry.
Who We Serve
Wild Breath provides educational programming to adult men from all backgrounds, focusing on individuals seeking to develop leadership skills, emotional resilience, and constructive community engagement through wilderness experiences. No membership is required. Our programs advance charitable and educational aims open to the public at large.
Why Wilderness Matters
Time spent in wild places offers unique opportunities for self-discovery, resilience-building, and perspective. In the Eastern Sierra's designated wilderness areas, participants step away from daily routines to engage in reflection, skill-building, and meaningful conversations that support personal development and healthy community.
Our Region
We conduct retreats in the Eastern Sierra region of California, including Inyo National Forest and nearby public lands. All programs use designated campsites and wilderness areas with appropriate permits, respecting Leave No Trace principles and local regulations.
Public Benefit & Inclusivity
As a nonprofit public charity, Wild Breath operates for the benefit of the community. We welcome participants without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, disability, age, or other protected characteristics. Our programs are designed to be accessible and inclusive, fostering an environment where all can grow and thrive.
Governance & Integrity
Wild Breath maintains board-approved programs, conflict-of-interest controls, and reasonable compensation practices. Compensation ranges are informed by organizational budget and an independent review conducted every two years, ensuring responsible stewardship of charitable resources.
Meet Our Board of Directors →How We're Funded
Our programs are funded 100% by generous donations and grants — never by participant fees. Every man attends free, and we run on a pay-it-forward model: the men who have already been out on the mountain give back so the next crew can go. Wild Breath is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service, and all donations directly support our mission to equip men through structured outdoor retreats and mentorship experiences.
What Your Donation Supports
Every contribution directly advances our charitable mission. Funds are used for:
- Retreats that are free to attend, so cost is never a barrier to showing up.
- Help offset program costs and expand access to outdoor recreation, community connection, and resilience-building experiences.
- Food, gear, permits, lodging, transportation support, and safety equipment for trips.
- Outdoor skill-building, guided group experiences, and structured opportunities for reflection and connection.
- Outreach and marketing that help more men discover and access Wild Breath programs.
- Participant follow-up, interest list communication, and future trip planning.
- Operational stability to support responsible, sustainable, long-term growth.
Organizational Values & Educational Philosophy
“Wild Breath is a powerful opportunity to join other men on an expedition to clarity, focus, and wholeness, drawing on the power of nature and fellowship.”
We are an educational community committed to disciplined character development through shared challenge, accountability, and purposeful living. We prioritize the development of personal integrity and resilience. Through structured group experience and service, we pursue lives marked by responsibility for the good of our families, our communities, and the legacy we leave behind.
We commit ourselves to the following:
1. Disciplined Formation
We take responsibility for our growth as men. Character is forged through intentional practice, honest self-examination, and standards higher than comfort or convenience.
2. Brotherhood & Accountability
We stand shoulder to shoulder, rejecting isolation and performative strength. We sharpen one another through truth, presence, and shared responsibility.
3. Courageous Integrity
We act with strength restrained by principle. Our values guide us in private and in public, choosing what is right over what is easy.
4. Purposeful Service & Stewardship
We steward our bodies, time, resources, and the land entrusted to us. We serve our families and communities sacrificially, placing responsibility above comfort.
5. Resilient Perseverance & Legacy
We embrace hardship as a training ground. We endure together with grit and clarity, living in a way that leaves a lasting legacy of honor and stability.
Together, we move forward with intention. Through brotherhood, disciplined formation, and shared challenge, Wild Breath forms men who stand firm, lead well, and contribute meaningfully to the lives and communities around them.
